The Polokwane Mayors Cup General Meeting took place on Wednesday, 29 January 2020.
During the meeting, Rule 11 came up for discussion. The rule pertains to the minimum number of floor members a team may field for a debate. After lengthy discussion, it was decided to reduce the minimum number of floor members to six.
The reduction will make it easier for teachers to find the necessary members for a Mayors Cup debate and give the floor members more time to raise points in their favour.
The general debate rules may be found here: General Rules

South Africa’s Mathematics pass rate is not improving:
The Department of Basic Education should allow learners to matriculate without Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy as compulsory subjects.
Fixture will be released once registration closes.
We would like to start the debating tournament as early as possible in the new school year; therefore, registration should take place without any delay, before or as soon as the schools open in January 2020.
Please take note of the following:
Please come with suggestions for debating topics – we want all to be involved in determining suitable and challenging topics. The registration form for 2020 goes with this letter. Please contact us if you need any more information.
Please make the debate part of your year plan and budget for 2020.
